Edinburgh Castle

Didn't sleep too well- too noisy and too bright too early (my bed is right by the giant windows). But that did mean that I didn't need my alarm to get up, and had extra time before they started serving breakfast at 8. Had some toast and hot water (apparently I have allegies here) then headed out. I went towards the castle (massive thing on top of a giant cliff, which you can see from almost anywhere in the main area of town) and ran into the farmer's market (ended up chatting with the coffee girl for a while- a really nice Canadian with some advice on what to see) then headed up again. The castle doesn't open until 9:30, so I wasted time looking at the view. Ended up "accidentally" trailing a tour, which was really intresting- the view from the top is amazing- you can see all the way to the netherlands! Wandered down the Royal Mile ( in and out of shops, of course) and had a cappuccino at a place called Rabbie Brown's. Window shopped down Prince St, ended up writing postcards in the sun by St. John's.
*as I was walking down the Royal Mile, I was stopped by an Irish priest selling rock music (go fig) who thought I looked continental, specifically French. Who knew?
*at one of the clan shops they found my family mottoes, apparently the Phillips clan is English and related to nobility:
-Parry: Never give in to Misfortune
-Phillips: Nothing unless honorable
I also saw some artwork by local artist Jack Vettriano that I liked, reminds me of Hopper.
