Bologna and Ferrari

So, up at 4:40 to catch a 6:00 bus. Got intho Manarolla to visit the Ferrari museum a little after 10. It was tiny but very complete. Probably would have helped if I was really at all interested in Ferrari beyond the fact that they make pretty cars. Left there 12ish but didn't get into Bologna until 1:30 because of traffic. It's really pretty though. All of the sidewalks are covered, which is great, because it was scortching. Julie and I stopped for lunch at Diana, which was ok, but it was a disappointment that the Bolognese specialty (tortellini) is only made with meat. We wandered along, trying to find the main piazza and on the way I finally found a shirt I liked on sale (I can now go 4 days without doing laundry!). The piazza Maggiore is cool, but the really interesting one is Piazza Nettuno, adjacent, because it has this really intricately carved fountain. Went into the Basilica di San Petrino (sp?), and I think it is my favorite so far- it has a cleaner line, but each of the alcoves were decorated in a completely different style- very cool. It was originally supposed to be bigger than St. Peter's in Rome, but the Pope put the kibosh on that, and from the outside you can see where they just stopped a wall right in the middle. Wandered down to La Sorbetteria on Via Castiglione to try their award winning gelato. Good, but Julie and I agreed that we like the stuff at La Rosetta better. Headed back to the bus, and came home.
